Officials told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC that large gatherings of worshippers were witnessed at the Hazratbal shrine from early morning, where people offered special prayers and supplications seeking peace, prosperity and well-being for the region. Meanwhile, authorities had made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the congregational prayers. Security was significantly strengthened in and around the shrine, while personnel from police and other security agencies were deployed to maintain law and order. Officials said a high alert was maintained across Jammu and Kashmir, with additional security measures put in place at sensitive locations and major religious places to ensure the peaceful observance of the day. Reports of Jumat-ul-Vida prayers were also received from various mosques and shrines across Kashmir, where devotees gathered in large numbers and offered special prayers for lasting peace, harmony and prosperity in the region. National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah also graced the occasion. (KNC)
