*Anantnag Police Arrest Drug Peddler; Contraband Recovered at Mattan* Anantnag; 03 May 2026 Anantnag Police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband during routine naka checking in the Mattan area. A police party from Police Station Mattan, while conducting naka checking near Gas Agency Mattan, noticed a suspicious individual carrying a bag and moving from Mattan towards Bumzoo via KP Road. On spotting the police party, the individual attempted to flee; however, he was promptly apprehended on the spot. During the search, approximately 174 grams of charas (powder-like substance) was recovered from a polythene bag in his possession. The accused has been identified as Adnan Shabir Bhat, son of Shabir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Pranbhawn, Mattan. In this regard, Case FIR No. 49/2026 has been registered at Police Station Mattan under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been set into motion. It is pertinent to mention that the accused was previously involved in FIR No. 12/2023 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Aishmuqam. Anantnag Police reiterate their commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and urge the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug trafficking.
