*Anantnag Police Arrests Second Accused in 110 Kg Ganja Haul; Major Breakthrough in FIR No. 39/2026* Anantnag, May 02, 2026: In continuation of investigation into FIR No. 39/2026 registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Srigufwara, Anantnag Police has achieved another significant breakthrough by apprehending the second accused involved in the transportation of a huge quantity of narcotic substance. It is pertinent to mention that during a naka/checking at Shalgam Crossing, police party of Anantnag Police Arrests Second Accused in 110 Kg Ganja Haul; Major Breakthrough in FIR No. 39/2026 Absconding accused tracked down and apprehended after sustained manhunt; investigation to establish forward linkages continues It is pertinent to mention that during a naka/checking at Shalgam Crossing, police party of Police Station Srigufwara had made a chance recovery of approximately 110 kilograms of Ganja-like substance from an Alto-800 bearing registration number JK01W-7328. During the operation, two persons namely Nazeer Khatana S/O Faqir Khatana R/O Gujjar Basti Shalgam and Abdul Rashid Bhat S/O Asadullah Bhat R/O Shitipura were found involved in the transportation of the contraband substance. While Nazeer Khatana was apprehended on the spot, the co-accused Abdul Rashid Bhat managed top flee from the scene taking advantage of the circumstances. Anantnag Police remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and urges the public to cooperate in the fight against drug menace.

- Pulwama: A wave of grief swept through the region as thousands of mourners gathered in Tiken village after the body of four-year-old Mohammad Hanzala was brought home. The child had been missing for several days before his body was recovered from Rambi Aara in Heerpora area of Shopian. - Anantnag Police Demolishes 15-Shop Illegal Commercial Complex Worth ₹1 Crore Belonging to Drug Peddler in Waghama Anantnag, May 02, 2026: In a major action against drug trafficking networks and illegally acquired assets, Anantnag Police, in continuation of its sustained crackdown on narcotics-related activities, facilitated the demolition of an illegally constructed commercial complex comprising 15 shops, valued at approximately ₹1 crore, at Waghama, Bijbehara. The demolished property belonged to notorious drug peddler Sajad Ahmad Rather S/O Mohammad Abdullah Rather R/O Waghama Bijbehara, who is involved in Case FIR No. 63/2017 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act of Police Station Yaripora. During verification, it surfaced that the said shopping complex had been illegally constructed on State land. Acting upon due legal process and in coordination with the concerned civil authorities, the illegal structure was demolished as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug syndicates operating in the district. Anantnag Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reiterates that not only drug peddlers but also assets created through illegal means or encroachment for criminal purposes will be identified and acted upon strictly as per law.6
