*#UNDER NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAN DRUGS AWARENESS PROGRAMME/ DEBATE COMPETITION ORGANISED BY J&K POLICE KATHUA AT GDC BILLAWAR* PRESS RELEASE; Kathua; 16 April; As part of the ongoing 100-Day “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”, Kathua Police under the overall supervision of *SSP Kathua* organized a comprehensive drug awareness programme/debate competition at Government Degree College Billawar in collaboration with the college administration. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and officials from Police. The event was graced by SDPO Billawar, Sh. Neeraj Padyar, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Principal GDC Billawar, along with esteemed faculty members of GDC Billawar including Dr. Nissar Ahmed Wani (Professor), Dr. Shamsher Singh (Professor), and Parveen Kumar (Professor) and Inspr. Zaheer Mushtaq, SHO Police Station Billawar. Their presence added significance to the programme and encouraged active student engagement. A debate competition on the topic of drug abuse and its consequences was organized during the programme, in which nine students of GDC Billawar participated with great zeal and awareness. Among them, Sonika Sharma secured the 1st position and was awarded a memento, while Ayushi Thakur secured the 2nd position and Priya Rani secured the 3rd position; both were also felicitated with mementos. All other participants were appreciated and awarded mementos in recognition of their efforts and participation. Prior to the award ceremony, SDPO Billawar, Sh. Neeraj Padyar, delivered a detailed and insightful lecture on drug abuse, highlighting its adverse effects on individuals, families, and society at large. He also elaborated on the initiatives undertaken by Kathua Police under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” and emphasized the collective responsibility of society in eradicating the menace of drugs. Gathering about 450 students participated in the programme.The programme primarily aimed at sensitizing students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and spreading awareness regarding its serious social, health, and legal consequences. Students were encouraged to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle and to actively engage in education, sports, and other constructive activities. Speakers on the occasion expressed concern over the increasing trend of drug addiction among youth and stressed the urgent need for early awareness, preventive measures, and strong community participation to effectively combat this growing menace. The programme concluded on a positive note with a strong message of collective action towards building a drug-free society.

- जिला मुख्यालय के हमीरपुर रोड स्थित एक कैफे में शुक्रवार सुबह करीब 6:30 बजे अचानक आग भड़क उठी। जानकारी के अनुसार आग कैफे के रसोई घर में लगी, जिसने कुछ ही समय में विकराल रूप धारण कर लिया। आग लगने के कारणों का अभी तक स्पष्ट पता नहीं चल पाया है, लेकिन प्रारंभिक अनुमान शॉर्ट सर्किट या गैस लीक की ओर इशारा कर रहे हैं। घटना के समय कैफे के साथ ही परिसर में स्थित जिम में कई युवा प्रशिक्षण के लिए पहुंचे हुए थे। जैसे ही आग की लपटें और धुआं दिखाई दिया, वहां मौजूद लोगों में अफरा-तफरी मच गई। स्थानीय लोगों ने आग पर काबू पाने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन आग तेजी से फैलने के कारण प्रयास सफल नहीं हो सके। सूचना मिलते ही दमकल विभाग की टीम मौके पर पहुंची और त्वरित कार्रवाई करते हुए आग पर काबू पा लिया। अतिरिक्त दमकल अधिकारी सुरेश कुमार ने बताया कि विभाग को सुबह करीब 6:40 बजे सूचना मिली थी, जिसके बाद टीम तुरंत घटनास्थल के लिए रवाना हुई। उन्होंने बताया कि कैफे की रसोई पूरी तरह से जलकर राख हो गई, जबकि बाकी हिस्से को सुरक्षित बचा लिया गया। इस आगजनी की घटना में करीब 4 से 5 लाख रुपए के नुकसान का अनुमान लगाया गया है। राहत की बात यह रही कि किसी भी प्रकार का जानी नुकसान नहीं हुआ। फिलहाल दमकल विभाग और स्थानीय प्रशासन आग लगने के वास्तविक कारणों की जांच में जुटे हुए हैं।2
