The fight for gender equality lies at the heart of the IFJ's work. Led by its Steering Committee, the Gender Council is responsible for guiding the federation’s policies and projects on gender equality with a work, unionism and journalism ethics’ perspectives. Its elected members are journalists and activists from all over the world committed to advancing gender equality in journalism and the trade union movement. The Gender Council is a non-political group that meets in person at IFJ's Global Congresses and during its mid term meeting. Its objectives are to engage women and men equally in all IFJ affairs and at all levels of the organisation and its member unions, advise the IFJ Executive Committee and member unions on proposals for policies, projects and actions needed to prioritise gender issues in the IFJ's work, promote solidarity and support among IFJ's affiliates in defending gender rights, and combat all forms of gender discrimination. The 2022 IFJ Global Congress in Oman was a milestone for the IFJ's work towards gender equality, as the federation's statutes have since recognised the Gender Council chair as a full member of the Executive Committee with voting rights. The newly appointed body is composed of 29 representatives of IFJ-affiliated journalists' unions and associations across the world. Its board, the Gender Council’s Steering Committee, is composed of 11 members, elected during a one-week online voting process, which ended on 12 April at 8 pm CET. The newly elected members of the IFJ Gender Council are: María Ángeles Samperio (FAPE, Spain),re-elected as chairperson for a third consecutive term, with 75% of the votes. Journalist Samim Sultana Ahdmed (IJU, India), who was an elected regional coordinator for Asia-Pacific in the previous term, becomes the new vice chair. Williette James (SLAJ, Sierra Leone) will be the new Gender Council’s secretary. The newly elected regional coordinators for this term are: Samira de Castro Cunha (FENAJ, Brazil) and Alicia Ortega (APU, Uruguay) for Latin America and the Caribbean Kadiatou Thierno Diallo (AJG, Guinea) and Patrica Adjisseku (UJIT, Togo) for Africa Manuela Bermudez (CFDT, France) and Domenica Mima Caligaris (FNSI, Italy) for Europe Javeria Siddique (PFUJ, Pakistan) and Nurul Nur Azizah (AJI, Indonesia) for Asia-Pacific. IFJ Gender Council chair María Ángeles Samperio thanked the members for re-electing her and welcomed them to a new term. “The Gender Council has a crucial task ahead in the coming years, which is to support women journalists around the world and ensure that IFJ affiliates prioritise and implement a new strategy to advance gender equality within their own organisations”. Samperio added, “I am delighted by the support received for this new term, and by the fact that the Gender Council's Steering Committee has a broad geographical representation, with its newly elected members eager to start working. Our task must be to contribute to building a stronger IFJ that reaffirms its commitment to gender equality, journalism, and journalists at the upcoming Centenary Congress in Paris”. - मुख्य शिक्षा अधिकारी गोविन्द राम जायसवाल ने अवगत कराया है कि, शैक्षिक वर्ष 2026-27 में समस्त राजकीय एवं राजकीय सहायता प्राप्त विद्यालयों में अध्ययनरत विद्यार्थियों को निःशुल्क पाठ्य-पुस्तकों के साथ-साथ नोटबुक भी वितरित की जाएंगी। यह निर्णय विद्यार्थियों को आवश्यक शैक्षणिक संसाधन उपलब्ध कराने तथा उनकी पढ़ाई को सुगम एवं प्रभावी बनाने के उद्देश्य से लिया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि शिक्षा निदेशालय से प्राप्त निर्देशानुसार नोटबुक का वितरण विभिन्न प्रकार से किया जाएगा— कक्षा 1 से 2 तक के प्रत्येक विद्यार्थी को 2 नोटबुक, कक्षा 3 से 5 तक के प्रत्येक विद्यार्थी को 3 नोटबुक तथा कक्षा 6 से 12 तक के प्रत्येक विद्यार्थी को 5 नोटबुक प्रदान की जाएंगी। इस पहल से विशेष रूप से आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्ग के विद्यार्थियों को लाभ मिलेगा तथा उन्हें अध्ययन सामग्री की कमी का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा। इससे विद्यालयों में नामांकन, उपस्थिति एवं शिक्षण-सीखने की प्रक्रिया को भी प्रोत्साहन मिलने की अपेक्षा है।1
