  • Legal Awareness Programme on Cyber Frauds Held at Magam Akhtar Ali Magam, March 27: A Legal Awareness Programme on Cyber Frauds and Online Scams was successfully organized by the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Magam at Town Hall Magam on Friday. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief of J&K Legal Services Authority, and under the leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority. The event was further guided by Member Secretary Ms. Shazia Tabasum and held under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, Hon’ble Mr. O.P. Bhagat, and Secretary DLSA Budgam, Ms. Tabasum Qadir Parray. The programme was organized in collaboration with Human Rights and Anti-Corruption (HQ Delhi/J&K UT) and Girls Higher Secondary School Magam, as part of the ongoing legal awareness initiatives. The event was inaugurated by Chairman TLSC Magam, Ms. Rabyia Snober Gulzar, and witnessed active participation from mediators, panel lawyers, para legal volunteers, students, and members of the Bar. Among the prominent attendees were Principal GHSS Magam, Ms. Muzamil Khan, and President Bar Association Magam, Mr. Sheikh Ishfaq Rasool, whose presence added significance to the programme. The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize the general public, particularly students, about the growing threat of cyber frauds and misuse of digital platforms. Resource persons, including Ms. Toiba Shafi (Assistant Public Prosecutor Magam), Mr. Sheikh Ishfaq Rasool (President Bar Association Magam), and Advocate Hilal Malla, delivered insightful sessions highlighting various forms of cyber crimes such as phishing, OTP frauds, fake job offers, social media scams, UPI frauds, and identity theft. The speakers emphasized the importance of adopting safe digital practices, including safeguarding confidential banking information, verifying unknown links and calls, and using secure platforms for financial transactions. They also informed participants about legal remedies and stressed the importance of timely reporting of cyber crimes through appropriate authorities and helplines. An interactive session was also held, during which students actively engaged with the experts and had their queries addressed. Awareness was further raised regarding the availability of free legal aid services for victims of cyber frauds under the Legal Services Authorities framework. Reaffirming its commitment, the District Legal Services Authority Budgam stated that it will continue to organize such awareness programmes to promote legal literacy and ensure digital safety among the public. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Ms. Iram Aziz, Junior Assistant, followed by a felicitation ceremony in which dignitaries and participants were honored for their valuable contributions.
