The accident is suspected to have been caused by reckless driving by a pickup van driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol. According to reports, a 108 ambulance carrying a patient to Baripada collided head-on with a speeding pickup vehicle. The impact of the crash was extremely severe, leaving both vehicles badly damaged and creating a chaotic scene at the spot. The injured include ambulance driver SK Ahmed, pharmacist Bhabani Shankar Jena, the patient, and the patient’s attendants. The patient is reported to be in critical condition after sustaining a serious head injury. Local residents alleged that the pickup driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident, which is believed to be the primary cause. Immediately after the incident, locals rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and informed the police. All the injured were shifted to Baripada hospital in critical condition. Traffic on the busy route was disrupted for some time following the accident, as a large number of people gathered at the spot.
